Twin Cities Art Museum Guide Collaborative Tour: Shadows at the Crossroads (Minneapolis Sculpture Garden)

Twin Cities Art Museum Guide Collaborative and the Walker Art Center invite you to tour the newest Minneapolis Sculpture Garden commission, Shadows at the Crossroads by Ta-coumba Aiken and Seitu Jones. This tour is free and open to museum guides + one guest. Space is limited. Please RSVP by Wednesday, September 18.  Please remember that by signing up for this tour you are making a commitment to your colleagues. If you need to change your plans, please cancel your reservation so that your spot can be given to someone on the waitlist. On the day of the tour, please meet your guides in front of the main entrance to the Walker at 725 Vineland Place (near the large silver “X” sculpture).   About the Artworks A continuation of a project created for Nicollet Mall in 1992, this new work consists of seven sculptures commemorating important figures in Minnesota’s history. Together, Aiken and Jones traced the shadows of community members and then worked with the Walker Art Center Teen Arts Council (WACTAC) to select the silhouettes for the piece. Poet Rosemary Soyini Vinelle Guyton composed the lines of verse that appear within five of the sculptures, creating a lyrical reference to the life each work honors. Installed in locations throughout the Garden, Shadows at the Crossroads is intended to be discovered by pedestrians as they make their way through the park’s pathways. Four bronze sculptures have been set into the sidewalks; two are etched into the concrete; and the final shadow exists as a work only visible when wet from the elements. Parking Underground parking is available on-site at a daily rate of $5. Enter the ramp on Vineland Place at Bryant Avenue. Accessible parking in the underground ramp is designated near the elevator and entrance. Free, but limited, on-street parking is available on the surrounding streets (restrictions enforced). Metro Transit bus lines are 4, 6, 12 & 25. We look forward to seeing you at the Walker!
