      Action Day Staff-Volunteer Signup

      On behalf of United Way and our entire Twin Cities community, THANK YOU for signing up for a Staff-Volunteer role for Action Day 2019! Action Day is made possible by hundreds of individuals who volunteer to help with pre-event setup or work in a staffing role capacity during the event. Staff-volunteers provide critical event support, ensuring we can provide an awesome experience for all Action Day attendees, and can ultimately reach our community goal of sending thousands of kids back to school ready to succeed! Please review the descriptions below for Pre-event Setup and Event Staff roles before signing up for a shift. When you are ready to sign up, click the green “Register” button in the upper right corner of this page. If you are signing up multiple people, click the dropdown arrow to select the number of individuals in your group.  You will be contacted by a United Way team member with your specific role assignment responsibilities based on the area and shift time you select on your registration. 1. Pre-event Setup: Help with unpackaging and setting out school supplies and signage on tables where backpack assembly will take place on Action Day. This role must ideally be able to lift a min. of 30 lbs.; however, other job responsibilities are available for those unable to do so.  Shifts available: Tuesday, August 6: 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7: 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7: 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 8: 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. 2. Event Staff: Action Day’s largest staff-volunteer need is for day-of Event Staff who help in various event execution roles during the event at Xcel Energy Center. You will be asked to select both a shift time and role area on your registration. Shifts available: 11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Greeters & Guides, Concourse Activities, Backpack Restockers/Counters, Backpack Runners 11:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. Vehicle Loaders 2:45 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Vehicle Loaders 3:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Greeters & Guides, Concourse Activities, Backpack Restockers/Counters, Backpack Runners 5:45 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Vehicle Loaders Role areas: Greeters & Guides: From greeting arrivals at the gate and passing out Prize Playbooks, to ensuring all attendees know where to find key areas inside the event, this role ensures a smooth experience for all attendees. Physical Considerations: Staff-Volunteers could be seated for their role. Please note if you need the option of a chair on your Eventbrite registration. Concourse Activities: Facilitate activities spread throughout the concourse that could include games, encouragement card making, and our designated kids volunteer project to help ensure a fun experience for all Action Day attendees! Backpack Station Restockers/Counters: Volunteers located at the Backpack Stations will be assigned to either maintaining a sufficient amount of school supplies on the backpack assembly tables or helping collect and count completed backpacks at the end of each assembly station. Physical Considerations: Staff-Volunteers are required to stand for the entire shift and be able to lift a min. of 25 lbs. repeatedly. Backpack Runners: Volunteers in this area travel to and from assembly stations collecting completed backpacks and deliver them to the loading zone (via a flatbed cart), where they are sorted for vehicle pickups. Physical Considerations: Volunteers in this area must be able to lift a min. of 25 lbs. repeatedly and push a cart carrying up to 100 backpacks. Vehicle Loaders: Transport completed backpacks from the loading zone into vehicles for scheduled pickups. Physical Considerations: Volunteers in this area must able to lift a min. of 25 lbs. repeatedly. Place me where the need is greatest: Selecting this option allows our team to place you in a role where a need remains, taking into consideration your physical ability/preferences and scheduling availability. Physical Considerations: Please note any physical considerations on your registration.
